A transparent understanding of your company/organization's policies for its employees should be non-negotiable.

I know the excitement associated with employment but grounding yourself in your company's employment/job-related information is vital. Human Resources is the go-to for that, but you should also get to know your Employee Handbook, nee' employee manual or company policy manual. Consider it your lifeline as you maneuver, progress, or depart (voluntary or involuntary) from your livelihood.


The guides and guidance you receive during the Welcome Orientation as a booklet or digital (hyperlink) are your blueprints for daily activities. Generally, they provide mission & vision statements, overviews & history, rules & procedures, benefits & bonuses, promotions & corrective actions, and departure (retirement, resignation, termination) instructions.

All this vital information is at your disposal or should be. Still, large segments of us in the employment world never read a line nor inquire where or how to get one. So, the next time you go on an interview or report to work, ask if you can get an updated copy of the employee handbook because, in this volatile market, you'll need all the resources you can get.
